The 2020 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition (March 9-13), or HIMSS20, is the “can’t-miss” health tech show of the year, where the latest innovations in digital health and wellness are on full display from the show floor to the main stage to the general education session series.

HIMSS20 brings together the leading health information and technology brands who are embracing the power of change to transform care delivery as we know it. Expect conversations ranging from health IT policy and security, to cloud computing, population health, AI and machine learning, among many others. Needless to say, the digital evolution in health will be in full effect at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

We spoke with several of our healthcare clients attending this year’s event who are leading this wave of innovation. We’re excited to share what they’re looking forward to most this year in a time of unprecedented change and promise in healthcare as thousands soon convene around the singular challenge: Be the change.

What are you looking forward to the most at HIMSS20?

Medisafe – Jen Butler, CMO

The leading digital therapeutics company providing medication management solutions for patients across the healthcare continuum

The digital revolution in our industry is aptly captured by this year’s theme: Be the change. Digital therapeutics are changing the way healthcare is provided and consumed, and most importantly is empowering patients to engage in their own health.

I’m excited to collaborate with fellow industry innovators and leaders across the healthcare continuum to advance needed changes in healthcare through technology. That, and shaking A-Rod’s hand in my Red Sox hat, of course!

PointClickCare – BJ Boyle, VP & GM of Post-Acute Insights

The leading cloud-based software vendor for the senior care market

At this year’s conference, we’re looking forward to continue discussing how to break down the silos that exist between acute and post-acute care, and particularly how those silos affect the patient journey and positive outcomes. The key to achieving this is Integrated Care Coordination, which enables systems to exchange data, ensure consistent levels of care, and enhance care coordination. Integrated Care Coordination also allows care teams to gather, interpret and share timely data about patients and facilities, improving the coordination of care between acute and post-acute facilities and empowering care teams to act and engage at the right time and when intervention is needed. It’s not just about manual intervention; it’s about systems designed to make sure the data follows to the patient and the patient gets the care they should be getting.

GYANTStefan Behrens, Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer

The leading artificial intelligence enabled platform for improving care utilization and pathways

I’m most excited about having the chance to connect face to face with existing and potential partners focused on moving the patient engagement needle. We recently partnered with Zipnosis to offer healthcare systems the most comprehensive digital front door and are excited to introduce the solution to more of the healthcare community.

Our team is also looking forward to the lineup of speakers that HIMSS has curated this year. With such impressive leaders in healthcare presenting, we are interested to hear their thoughts about the current market and predictions for the future. This is an exciting time for our company, and over the next few years, we expect to see tremendous leaps in digital front door functionality and adoption.

What do you think will be the top trends at this year’s conference?

Medisafe – Butler

Patient empowerment. No longer a means to an end, but rather an end goal for providers, payers and specialty pharmacies. Personalized digital health companions empower patients by supporting them across their journeys with technology that is not only interoperable but actionable in empowering patients for a positive impact. PointClickCare – Boyle

Rest assured AI will be a hot topic. But I believe moving the conversation forward on interoperability will be key. It’s time to stop talking about interoperability as if it’s a far-off feature that may never come. In 2020, we should expect to see interoperability and data fluidity as the norm, especially as it relates to patient centricity. It’s imperative that we move away from a limited understanding of interoperability that focuses solely on admission, discharge, and transfer (ADT) information, and patient location. When we think about interoperability, we need to move away from ‘Where is my patient?’, and focus more on ‘How is my patient doing?’ and ‘When should I take action?’ HIMSS20 is an opportunity to evolve the conversation and focus on the solutions vendors can provide, as well as outcomes providers expect, predict and standardize.

GYANT – Behrens

With so many tracks focused on data, analytics and AI, we expect integration and interoperability to be key themes coming out of the conference. Health systems are overloaded with point solutions and managing technology integration can take away from time spent delivering care. This is something we are committed to solving and are excited to see how the conversation unfolds around addressing this industry-wide issue.
