Client Insights for HIMSS19: Q&A with Everbridge

As we kick off HIMSS in Orlando this week, we’re excited to share the latest installment of our Q&A series with PAN client Everbridge, the global leader in critical event management and enterprise safety applications.

Everbridge’s General Manager of Healthcare Solutions, Eric Chetwynd, leads the company’s work across hospital and health systems helping healthcare practitioners communicate during emergencies, maintain quality patient care and keep technology running in the event of IT failure or cyber attack.

We caught up with Eric about what he’s learned from previous conferences and what he’s most excited about at HIMSS19.

Everbridge_HIMSS1. Tell us a little about any key lessons you’ve learned or tactics you’ve deployed to get the most traction at the show from attending in the past.

I have found that one of the best tactics for HIMSS is to map out the key presentations you are planning to attend before arriving at the show based on the topics and organizations you are most interested in understanding. The HIMSS app can certainly help you map that out ahead of time. A few additional key tactics are to plan for a lot of walking, wear comfortable shoes and bring water to hydrate.

2. What themes and trends are you most interested in keeping tabs on at this year’s conference?

Given the nature of Everbridge’s focus on Critical Event Management and communications, I am most interested in topics focused around clinical communication and collaboration especially related to patient events, staff safety and the cyber risks around these challenges (e.g., cybersecurity of IoMT).

3. If you can break away from the rigors of your work at the show, are there any speakers or sessions you would like to see?

One of the business-oriented sessions I am looking forward to is “Digital Medicine Transformation: The New Skill for CIOs.” This session is being led by a couple of the top health systems in the country focused on how CIOs can play a lead role in the digital medicine transformation for health systems.

From a technology perspective, “Embracing the IoT: Ideas Are Easy, Execution Is Hard,” seems like a very interesting topic most health systems are facing today, which involves how IoT and IoMT tie into your clinical and non-clinical communication strategies, as well as understanding and managing cyber risk.
