As 2019 comes to an end and we move into 2020, there’s one thing we can all count on – work is not going to slow down. From 2020 planning to client onboarding to end of year reports, our to-do lists have no end in sight. It can become very easy to focus all of our attention on tasks and projects at the expense of our mental well-being.

Fortunately, there are simple steps that we, as PR professionals, can take to help create a healthy and balanced workplace that don’t require much time or effort but can greatly reduce stress.

Get Organized & Recognize Priorities
This may seem like a no-brainer but taking the time to organize to-dos and priorities can sometimes get pushed to the back burner when work gets busy.
Take time to write out your top priorities each day – depending on what works best for you, this can be in the morning or before signing off the night before. This allows you to think through everything on your plate, prioritize the tasks that are most important and set forth a clear plan of attack. Additionally, by having a clear view of the tasks on your plate you can more easily communicate with your team members and set deadlines and expectations accordingly.
Make Time for Yourself
If you ever decide to forego breaks in the interest of focusing on work, you may be shooting yourself in the foot. As it turns out, employees that take breaks during the workday report higher job satisfaction and efficiency.
Every day, in PAN’s San Francisco office, team members step away from their desks and computers for a short time to eat, catch up with each other and take their minds off of work. Whether it’s a full lunch break or stepping outside for a quick walk around the block or to grab a mid-day coffee, taking a few minutes away from your desk not only makes you more productive but creates a greater sense of satisfaction in your work.
