“Family is the most important thing in the world.” – Princess Diana
Family means many things to many people. One definition that comes close to what it means to be a family in the workplace is a group of related things. But that definition doesn’t embody what it means to be a family at PAN. It’s missing the daily smiles and high fives. The groups that form and celebrate life’s new beginnings or the challenges you overcome together. It’s missing the hours spent on never-ending daily tasks. It’s missing the diversity of our upbringings and the paths that led us all here. The paths that brought us together – as a family.
Today, we are experiencing something as a family and it’s hard to put into words. We have lost one of our own – Katie Blair, who led PAN’s Southeast team over the past several years. She was a leader, a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend…a light that stayed on even when the mood felt dark. A light we could all use right now. A light we will keep on in her memory.
Katie was special to so many, and we were fortunate to be part of her life. As a leader and colleague, Katie was fearless, unwavering and always knew the right way to do things. As a friend, Katie was joyful, funny – with the most perfect, memorable laugh – and kind. She was truly the type of person who would drop everything if you needed help – whether that was help writing a press release or help finding a new apartment. She was present for everyone, always.
In reverence to Katie’s memory, we have created a GoFundMe page to honor Katie and support her beautiful family with the same passion and devotion by which she supported her family at PAN.
And for those who didn’t have the good fortune to experience her warmth and contagious smile, here are a few quotes that remind us of Katie from the cast she dreamed to attend a dinner party.
“There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves; it is not my nature.” – Jane Austen
“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the things you can think up if only you try!” – Dr. Seuss
“A good thing never ends.” – Mick Jagger
And in Katie’s own words: “Life is about perseverance, it won’t always be easy and you’ll hit many hurdles, but never lose sight of who you are now and who you want to be.”
Thank you, Katie, for all the wonderful memories that we will carry with us in our hearts forever.
Rest in peace and enjoy that dinner with Lady Di. She’ll love everything about you – just like we did.
