Last August, PAN Communications began to put a team together and raise money for the 2010 American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. PAN is very proud to have sponsored this walk and be part of such a successful day for the American Cancer Society. Over $3 million was raised from Sunday’s walk in Boston.
In public relations, we all work in teams to reach goals for our clients. When various members of the PAN staff came together to raise money as a team to help fight the war against breast cancer, we not only succeeded in our goal, but continued to raise the bar over and over again. Each member of the team has been touched by cancer and each wanted to walk in memory or in honor of those affected. Our PAN colleagues cheered us on and donated as well. As of today, the Pink PANthers have raised over $7,000.
As Ani mentioned in her blog post about the kick-off breakfast, “The best part was that everyone in that room was gathered for one reason – to raise money and fight breast cancer. It was truly powerful.” The best part of Sunday was that same feeling—all 40,000 walkers, all walking 5.7 miles, wearing pink, smiling, and working together for a cure. Listening to Radio Personality Candy O’Terry (MAGIC 106.7) was one of the most moving moments. Having been lucky enough to have breast cancer survivors in my own family, she truly touched home to the reason why so many people were walking that beautiful Sunday morning.
The Pink PANthers walked together with friends and family members, sporting our T-shirts, which were also a coordinated team effort. A typical PAN e-mail brainstorm session took place a few weeks prior to the event, as we bounced different ideas off of each other, to land on the most fitting tag line – “PANning the Way for a Cure.” With the team name and the tag line created, all that was left was the T-shirt design. Playing off of the event’s theme, we ran with the brown and pink color scheme. We made sure to add our own PAN touch — a subtle silhouette of a PANther walking its way to a cure.
The website will be accepting donations through the spring. Thank you to all our family, friends and colleagues who donated to our team. Thank you for helping us get closer to a cure and creating a world with less breast cancer and more birthday celebrations!
