Account Manager
Account Manager - Position Description

Reports to: Director/Senior Account Manager

Basic Purpose:

Motivate teams to secure results by “leading by example, all with an eye toward meeting clients’ public relations objectives.”

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of the Director/Senior Account Manager ensure all elements of the program are rung to plan; including tactical planning of projects and programs
  • Secure tight relationships with direct reports/peers inside client organization
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with trade and business media, market research analysts as appropriate. Includes pitching along with the team
  • Provide guidance to team members (leading by example) including pitches to editors, angles for editorial opportunities, competitive and product positioning
  • Write press releases, plans, presentations, backgrounders, and bylined articles as well as press kit contents, fact sheets, newsletters, memos, etc.
  • Practice proactive client relations by keeping clients informed on a regular basis of program status
  • Be thoroughly knowledgeable of and able to discuss client products and services, competition, markets, business and technology
  • Manage team on meeting deadlines for particular account activities
  • Manage and drive team meetings
  • Work with Senior Associates to make sure he/she is managing and/or implementing editorial opportunities, speaking opportunities, and award opportunities programs
  • Oversee the development of tradeshow and press tour schedules and driving additional reports to the both while on site
  • Participate in budget and time management
  • Communicate monthly billable goals to staff member and report to management on account time status
  • Responsible for keeping Director/Senior Account Manager appraised of progress toward goal
  • Issue mid-month flash to Director/Senior Account Manager
  • Update Directors/Senior Account Managers on suggestions of projections and staffing needs for coming months
  • Prepare for and participate in monthly Senior Management meetings
  • Participate in interview and evaluation process for potential new employees
  • Partner with peers to drive and facilitate performance reviews and mentor staff
  • Work effectively with media relations department
  • Ensure teams complete tasks as assigned

Professional Responsibilities

  • Effective communication within all account teams
  • Share client contact under the direction of the Account Manager
  • Responsible for networking (new business and recruiting)
  • Daily minimum billable goal of 7.5 hours

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment

  • B.S./B.A. – public relations, communications or journalism preferred
  • 6-8 years in hi-tech agency public relations including internships in public relations field
  • Ability to effectively work with others and communicate clearly
  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and complete per set deadline
  • Ability to work hours that may exceed 40 hours per week

Associate
Associate - Position Description

Reports to: Account Manager, Senior Account Manager, Director

Basic Purpose:

Owns the media relations portion of the program, and provides public relations support to account teams by working closely in a team environment to support each public relations accounts objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a solid understanding of the client’s products and services, markets and competitors
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with trade, vertical and regional media
  • Formulate pitches and secure news coverage for client
  • Responsible for consistently identifying industry trends and developing proactive/creative pitches
  • Engage and demonstrate presence in team and client meetings
  • Responsible for wire service set-up and dissemination
  • Partner with Account Manager or Senior Associate in drafting/writing press releases
  • Responsible for uncovering speaking/award opportunities, if needed
  • Attend tradeshows/media and analyst tours; if applicable
  • Work with teams to drive analyst relations program as needed by client
  • Responsible for team administrative support as directed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Junior Associate
Junior Associate - Position Description

Reports to: Senior Associate, Account Manager

Basic Purpose:

Provide public relations support to account teams, work closely in a team environment helping to support each public relations objective.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a solid understanding of the client’s products and services, markets and competitors
  • Where an account has no Intern/Account Coordinator assigned:
  • i. Responsible for team administrative support
  • ii. Responsible for client and competitive searches
  • iii. Research and update databases/media lists as assigned
  • iv. Responsible for editorial calendar administration for client
  • v. Responsible for uncovering speaking/award opportunities and maintaining database
  • vi. Create briefing material for media and analyst appointments
  • Engage in team and client meetings; providing duties and responsibilities
  • Work with team members to formulate, pitch and secure news coverage for clients (once core administrative responsibilities are accomplished)
  • Conduct follow through on booked media and analyst appointments
  • Perform other duties as assigned by SA or AM

Intern (Summer)
PR Intern - Position Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific PR Responsibilities

  • Be familiar with the agency resources, such as Media Map, Nexis, Bacon's Clip Service, EdCals.com, and online databases for the team's clients and use regularly.
  • Learn the top-tier trade and business publications as well as the regional press, frequency, audiences and what they cover. Might be required to work with account team members to research news coverage for client in trade, business, online and broadcast media.
  • May be requested to provide administrative support such as proofreading, maintaining client files, binding presentations and clip books, assisting with press kit materials, and clipping media coverage.
  • May be requested to conduct regular, or as needed, client searches in newspapers, magazines and online sites. Depending on the needs of the firm, interns may conduct competitive searches and e-mail updates to a certain team or teams on a daily basis.
  • May be requested to research, develop and update mailing lists, media lists, editorial and speaking calendars/opportunities.
  • May be requested to research and uncover opportunities for tradeshows and speaking opportunities and possibly assist with drafting memos, speaking abstracts, submitting for speaking and award opportunities, and organizing this information in a tracker.
  • If the opportunity arises or as needed, work with team members to secure media appointments for clients at trade shows and/or industry conferences by securing a press pre-registration list and helping contact reporters. Once secured, you may be asked to create meeting calendar, briefing shell and provide clips for the show.
  • May be asked to prepare press kits and fed-ex packages for press/analyst distribution.
  • Responsible for providing support for the phones and reception area, i.e. for lunch coverage and as needed. Also responsible for assisting with cleaning up the clip room, library and common areas on a monthly basis or as needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested.*

Professional Responsibilities

  • Responsible for learning the “PAN way,” i.e., using Garamond Book Condensed, 14 pt. as a universal font, margins for memos, proper templates for fax cover sheets and letters, lining up triangles, etc.
  • Responsible for effective communication with the intern team and your supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Record time on a time card and punch in and out on a daily basis.
  • Update phone message daily, i.e., alerting clients that you are off-site.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Education: College Senior or Junior required.
  • Experience: None, although other PR internships or relevant class work is preferred but not required.
  • Candidates must have the ability to effectively work with others and communicate clearly and effectively in a team environment. Additionally, the candidate must have proven computer skills.
  • Excellent writing skills, and ability to proof read typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical errors.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with diverse groups of people.
